Sorry for the delay in posting this. Life has been a little crazy lately and i've been doing a lot of house and family stuff. Any hooo here they are:
19. The Squid and The Whale (Noah Baumbach 2005)
This coming of age tale shows the pitfalls of being raised in a hippy household. Jeff Daniels delivers an awesome perfomance as a broken and beaten down man trying to hold onto the life he took for granted and lost.
18. Capturing The Friedmans (Andrew Jarecki 2003)
What started as a documentary about New York City clowns turned into a sad, scary film about a family slowly being destroyed. With home footage filmed by the youngest son, you literally see a family being destroyed right in front of your eyes. Whether or not you believe the father committed the horrible crimes he was accused of, you can't help but feel absolute sadness as you witness these people's lives being ruined by the media and court system.
17. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers (Peter Jackson 2002)
You didn't think I had forgotten about LOTR did you?? The Two Towers is my personal favorite but this spot really represents the entire trilogy. I have a feeling that forty years from now, people will still be watching these movies.
16. The Prestige (Christopher Nolan 2006)
I never thought I would actually find a movie about Magicians enjoyable but this flick delivers. Intrigue, mysteries and scifi; what more could a geek ask for?! Christopher Nolan can poop a great movie. Good thing he decided to make them the old fashion way.
15. City Of God (Fernando Meirelles, Kátia Lund 2002)
City of God is so real you'll swear you heard bullet flying past your ears. It's hard to describe to you why I love this movie so much unless you've seen it. Then there is no explanation necessary.
14. The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan 2008)
Every person in the world knows this movie is amazing. I don't need to tell ya why.
13. Audition (Takashi Miike 2001)
I've never seen Dana act more frightened while watching a movie. If you want to be scared shitless go rent this movie NOW.
12. Mulholland Drive (David Lynch 2001)
I'm still not a 100% sure what this movie is about, but really it doesn't matter. The master of arthouse David Lynch delivers absolute perfection with this film. Amazing filming, acting and editing with a little Film Noir added in.
11. Battle Royale (Kinji Fukasaku, 2000)
This movie has brass balls. Christ, the plot revolves around middle school students brutally killing each other for a game show. On top of that, it's actually really good. The quality makes it really hard for people who hate the social commentary to rip on this movie. Those facts alone make it one of the most brilliantly made movies in the last decade.
Sorry, the final 10 will be posted tomorrow...
